Dear New Heights family,
It's amazing what can change in just one week.
One week ago today, I was being loaded into an ambulance by a team of EMTs with back pain so severe I was unable to even sit up, let alone drive (or be driven) to a doctor's office. I was taken to the A&E department of Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po where I was given copious amounts of pain relievers and looked over by a team of doctors and nurses. An initial xray revealed what was initially thought to be a fracture in one of my vertebrae. Subsequent xrays revealed otherwise, but needless to say, it was a very scary couple days. On thursday, after I was able to sit up for a reasonable amount of time, and finding a doctor who would take my case, I was transferred to Union Hospital in Tai Wai where an MRI revealed I had a torn disc in my L5 vertebrae.
I was finally able to be discharged late Friday night and was never more delighted to be at home in my own bed.
I want to take a moment to, from the bottom of my heart, tell you all just how grateful myself and my family have been over the outpouring of prayers, encouragement, visits, and help during the past week. We couldn't have made it through without you and I know with every ounce of my belief I wouldn't be able to be standing without you interceding on my behalf to our God who loves and listens to His people. Thank you. There were times when I was OVERWHELMED with messages, phone calls, whatsapps, emails, etc from all over the world letting me know people were praying for my family and I. Thank you. Thank you for your love, thoughtfulness, and encouragement during a time we needed it tremendously.
I'd love to tell you I tore the disc in my back while fighting off a gang of triads who were harassing a helpless por por. I'd love to. Unfortunately, real life just isn't as exciting as our stories sometimes. In reality, I felt my back *tweak for the first time when I was placing handouts in chairs before church on the 14th of August. As the day went on, the pain got more and more severe which was only relieved by me laying on my back in bed. I was joking with my friend Andrew saying this whole ordeal was a holy lesson in leadership delegation because if I had simply assigned someone from within the new heights family the task, I might have avoided this whole situation. I'm so thankful for all of you who stepped up and showed your investment in your church during my absence. Thank you for believing in the vision and mission of this church and journeying with us. Now is the time we need you more than ever as we continue to grow as a church in a new season. Please continue to pray daily for your church. Pray audacious, God-sized things for this church because no prayer is ever too big for our God. There are some very, very exciting things which we've been working on behind the scenes which we are just not yet ready to announce or reveal just yet but please, PRAY for it all to come to fruition.
I love you all and am so blessed by each of you. Let's keep walking together in unity and love.
So that the WORLD may know,
